Elliptical
Mask
The elliptical mask has two surfaces sloping from a median ridge,
one painted red and the other blue-green, both spotted with white. Painted
spots appear on many masks, as well as on the bladders during the Bladder
festival, and even on some participants. They represent snowflakes, stars,
or eyes, depending on the mask's story. As in healing, the painter's touch
may have been as significant as the mark left behind.
